Darron “Darryl” Taylor, affectionately known to all as DT, lived a life that was as vibrant and spirited as the man himself. Born on November 26, 1962, into a warm community of Sebring, Florida, Darryl’s journey came full circle as he passed away in the same town on February 18, 2024. His 61 years on this earth were marked by a contagious energy and an unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and community.
Darryl’s life was a testament to the power of resilience and self-improvement. He obtained his GED, and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Minnesota, and demonstrated that it’s never too late to pursue one’s dreams. His entrepreneurial spirit shined brightly as he established Darryl Taylor’s Phlebotomy Services, providing invaluable in-home lab services to the residents of Highlands County and surrounding areas. Through his Phlebotomy work, he touched the lives of many, offering not just medical assistance, but also doses of his irrepressible personality.
A man of Faith, Darryl committed his life to Christ at an early age, and was a dedicated member of the First Missionary Baptist Church.
Darryl’s interests were as diverse as his talents; he was a passionate DJ, a soulful singer, and an loved to be on the “go”. His love for music often found him channeling the energy of his favorite Rapper, Uncle Luke, and he was renowned for being the life of any party he graced.
Family was the anchor of Darryl’s existence. He was a beacon of unity, bringing people together with his natural charisma and generous spirit. He loved and honored his mother, Mary Williams Taylor, with a devotion that was unwavering. His children—Tekia Taylor, Darryl “DJ” Taylor Jr., and Miya Taylor—were the pride of his life, and he instilled in them the values of love, respect, and the importance of family bonds. Darryl’s Grandchildren, Ti’Mizhoni Holdman, Antarria Crumity, Ti’Keyria Taylor, King Reed, and Timarion Reed who brought him immense joy, will carry forward his legacy of kindness and exuberance.
Darryl’s siblings—Gloria Mosley, Clarence Taylor, Donald Taylor, Annetta Taylor, McArthur Taylor, William Taylor, Maryn Williams, Anthony Gaines Jr, and Mark Gaines—along with his (2)-Nieces, (10)-Nephews, and a Special Future Daughter In-Law, Taneya Martin, are a testament to the loving family he was a part of. Darryl was loved by many and had a host of dear cousins and friends who survived and preceded him death. Though he was preceded in death by his Father, Anthony Gaines, his Granddaughter, Azaria Reed, his Grandparents, J.C. and Vela Taylor, his Uncles, Willie and Frank Taylor, and his Aunts, Mary Alice and Edena Taylor, his spirit of togetherness continues to live on through those he left behind.
Darryl was a man who could light up any room with his presence. He was spirited, passionate, and generous, and never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand or offer a DT’s word of advice. His ability to unite his family, and friends was nothing short of remarkable, and his impact on his community will be felt for generations to come.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” Darryl embraced this philosophy wholeheartedly, living each day as a daring adventure, filled with love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. His life story is one of triumph, of a man who overcame obstacles and used his gifts to enrich the lives of others.
As we celebrate the life of Darron “Darryl” Taylor, let us remember the joy he brought into the world, the lives he touched, and the love he shared. His journey may have ended in the place it began, but the path he traveled was filled with extraordinary moments and lasting connections. DT’s legacy is one that will continue to inspire and motivate all who were fortunate enough to know him. May we all strive to live with the same passion and purpose that Darryl did, making the most of every moment we are given.
