John Tavano Obituary

John Francis Tavano Sr., known affectionately to all as John, peacefully concluded his earthly journey on November 15, 2025, to be with God, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family in Sebring, Florida. Born on October 9, 1938, in Niagara Falls, New York, John's life was a testament to the strength and kindness he exuded every day.

John was a devoted husband to Barbara Ann, his beloved wife of 67 years, who together built a life rich in love and shared commitment. Their enduring partnership was the cornerstone of a family that included their cherished children John Jr., Debra, Sandy, and Nancy, and their respective spouses Donna Tavano, Scott Shields, Corey Baughman, and Bill Moors. John's legacy of love continued with his grandchildren, Christopher (Kristy), Brittany (Shawn), Danny (Laura), Shayne, Jordan (Josh), and Brandan, and his great-grandchildren Taylor, Jude, Thea, Kyle, Ryan, Avery, Landon, and Luke. His lineage was touched by sorrow with the early departure of his grandson John III (Frankie) in 2023, a loss that John bore with grace and faith. He was preceded in death by his little brother William, and is survived by his brother Dennis wife (Deborah), and sister Donna Jaeger, who will hold his memory dear.

John's educational journey at Bishop Duffy High School in Niagara Falls laid the groundwork for a life of dedication and hard work. Professionally John was a respected businessman, having been the owner-operator of several gas stations. His mechanical expertise was not just his livelihood but also his passion. Before that, he applied his leadership and craftsmanship as a construction foreman, where his colleagues admired his work ethic and integrity.

A devoted Catholic, John walked in the light of the Lord, which guided his every action and decision. This faith was the compass by which he navigated the challenges and joys of life.

Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, John (The "WHIP" to his bowling friends) was an extraordinary professional bowler, with many years on the PBA Senior Tour. John was celebrated for his remarkable 49 certified 300 games, along with numerous 800 series (10+) with his pride and joy being the "858" series. His passion for the sport was matched only by his love for the Miami Dolphins; a team he supported through thick and thin.

Those who knew John would describe him as loving, faith-filled, and wise. His wisdom, often imparted through gentle guidance, was a beacon for many.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "It is not the length of life, but the depth of life." John's life was indeed deep, filled with countless moments of joy, love, and the quiet satisfaction of a life well-lived.

His departure leaves a void in the lives of those he touched, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. John's life was a beautiful reflection of the values he held dear, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him for generations to come.
