Undlee "Big James" Patterson, a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on July 15, 1950, in Sylvania, Georgia, and was called home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2023, in Sebring, Florida.

Big James was the beloved son of the late Norman Patterson Sr. and Louise Screven Patterson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Screven and Robert Patterson, and is survived by his loving family, Corrine Pride of Lake Placid, Clyde Allen (Willie Lee) of Lake Placid, Norman Patterson Jr. (Arneda) of Sylvania, Georgia, Mozell Patterson of Girard, Georgia, Abraham Patterson Sr. of Sylvania, Georgia, Bennie Patterson Sr. (Bessie Mae) of Sylvania, Georgia, Almae Dixon of Nashville, Tennessee, and Ulysses Patterson of Lake Placid, Florida, Henry Patterson of Lake Placid, Florida, Thelma Tyler of Columbia, South Carolina, Hull Lee Patterson (Jackie) of Girard, Georgia,  Genorman Patterson (Jeanette) of Sylvania, Georgia. He is also survived by Lorene McCray (Aunt) of Lake Placid, Florida, as well as by his uncle Norman Scurry Sr. of Girard, Georgia. Big James will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews, including special nephews Geraldo LeGree, Prentiss LeGree, and Arthur Scurry (deceased). He also leaves behind his special friends, James Weston and Dorothy (Po'Dot) Goldsmith, who brought joy and laughter to his life.

Big James possessed a strong work ethic from a young age. At just 12 years old, he began working at Badcock in Augusta, Georgia, and later became a migrant worker, where he picked oranges and apples to help support his family. His dedication and hard work laid the foundation for a kind, generous, and thoughtful man who made a positive impact on the lives of those around him.

A lover of life, Big James had a variety of interests that brought him happiness. He had a passion for reading and could often be found with a newspaper in hand, engrossed in the latest stories. His love for cards was well-known, particularly for games like Pitty Pat, Tunk, and Spades, which he enjoyed playing with his family and friends. It was not uncommon for Big James to be outside, taking pleasure in the simple joy of chasing rabbits, an activity that always brought a smile to his face in his youth.

Kind, generous, and thoughtful are the words that best describe Big James, a beloved member of his community who touched the lives of many with his warm heart and gentle spirit. His caring nature was evident in every interaction, and he took great pride in being there for those who needed him. A guiding light to his family and friends, Big James embodied the words of Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

As we say goodbye to Big James and cherish our memories, we take solace in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with his loved ones who predeceased him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Big James; you will be greatly missed.
